3 Ways to Refresh Your Look for the Holiday Season

3 Ways to Refresh Your Look for the Holiday Season

The holiday season is upon us, and that means lots of friends, family, and social engagements. If you’re not happy with what your appearance says about you, though, you still have time to change the narrative and present your more refreshed look to everyone you meet.

At Primary Care Walk-In Medical Clinic in Gilbert, Fountain Hills, Mesa, and Scottsdale, Arizona, our providers, Dr. Pankaj Chopra and Dr. Neha Maheshwari, offer several aesthetic treatments, including Botox®, fillers, and Morpheus8, that can help you refresh your look just in time for the holiday season.

If you’re looking for a way to celebrate the younger-feeling inner you, here’s what you need to know about these three minimally invasive treatments.

What is Botox, and what can it do?

Botox is a neurotoxin made from the naturally occurring bacterium Clostridium botulinum, the same toxin that, when ingested, causes food poisoning. In its purified form and used in an aesthetic setting as an injectable, it’s harmless and can be used to treat the visible signs of aging.

Specifically, Botox is used to target dynamic wrinkles — those that form from repeated smiling, frowning, or squinting. Each time you make an expression, the muscle under the skin tugs at it a bit. When you’re young, your skin is more elastic, and it bounces back to its smooth state. As you age, though, it can’t respond as well.

Botox is FDA-approved to treat the lines between your eyebrows (glabellar lines), the horizontal lines in your forehead, and crow’s feet around your eyes. The toxin prevents nerves from signalling the muscles to contract, and your face relaxes as a result.

You should see noticeable effects within a week of the injection, and the results last 3-4 months, after which you can repeat the procedure.

What are dermal fillers, and how do they work?

Dermal fillers treat static wrinkles — those caused by the loss of the underlying structure of collagen, hyaluronic acid, and elastin. When you’re young, the meshwork of this structural net keeps the skin surface smooth and firm. But with age, it starts to lose its strength, and your body produces less of the critical components.

Dermal fillers fill in the creases caused by the lack of support and plump up the tissue, so your wrinkles disappear. The skin becomes firmer, smoother, and younger-looking. There are different kinds of fillers, but most contain naturally occurring hyaluronic acid (HA), which helps retain moisture and gives your skin a supple, smooth appearance.

Three of the most common HA fillers are Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Belotero® Balance. Each targets a different area, such as the cheeks, lips, or nasolabial folds. Results are immediate, and they can last up to a year or more before you need another treatment.

We often use Botox and dermal fillers together because they’re complementary treatments. When used in this way, you can refresh most of your face in one go, minimizing the number of appointments you need to make.

What is Morpheus8?

You may have heard of microneedling (also called collagen induction therapy), a cosmetic procedure that uses a roller to create tiny pinpricks in your skin. The tiny wounds trigger your body to enter “healing” mode, producing more collagen and elastin to shore up the surface of your skin, making it appear younger.

Morpheus8 is like microneedling on steroids. It employs radiofrequency energy, which the device delivers into the pinpricks, heating the inner skin tissue and slightly damaging it. That damage also triggers a healing response, and your body makes even more collagen and elastin.

The platform can work on multiple body parts:

Morpheus8

Morpheus8 primarily treats the face and neck areas. It tightens and firms skin, helps restore volume, and conveys a more youthful appearance.

Morpheus V

Morpheus V is used on the delicate vaginal and vulvar areas to treat vaginal laxity, dryness, painful sex, and lack of sensation. In addition, it can also improve stress incontinence in women.

Morpheus Body

Morpheus Body targets fat in areas, such as the abdomen, back, and thighs, offering precise body contouring.

There’s little to no downtime for any of these procedures. The number of treatments you need will depend on the size and number of the areas you’re having treated, as well as the specific state of your skin.
